Exceptional field theories are duality covariant formulations of supergravity based on exceptional geometry. I review the formalism and its applications. I will discuss how this framework may also accommodate the so-called exotic supergravities carrying gauge fields with nonstandard Young tableaux representations, subject to (self-)duality constraints.
