Junior Research Fellows

Junior Research Fellows The Junior Research Fellowship Programme supports visiting graduate students and recent postdocs (at most 5 years past receiving their PhD) to work on a project in mathematics or physics that is either connected to a research direction carried out at the University of Vienna or to an ESI thematic programme. Junior researchers who have been employed at an academic institution in the Vienna area in the two years prior to the time of application are not eligible. The ESI provides support for a Junior Research Fellow to work at the ESI for a time period between one and four months. Proposals should consist of:

  • a brief description of the project (3 pages)
  • a CV
  • the list of publications and previous achievements
  • names of one local contact person (faculty) and 2 possible referees
  • a letter of support from their local contact

Applications for fellowships should be sent in PDF-format to applications@esi.ac.at. Deadlines are March 15, June 15 and October 15, in the year preceding the proposed visit. Applicants of the 15th October deadline may visit the ESI no earlier than 1st May of the following year.

Note that a Junior Research Fellowship cannot be awarded to people who have received or will receive a salary from the University of Vienna in the year of the fellowship. For more detailed information please contact secr@esi.ac.at.
