Junior Research Fellows

The Junior Research Fellowship Programme supports visiting graduate students and recent postdocs (at most 5 years past receiving their PhD) to work on a project in mathematics or physics in collaboration with a research group of the University of Vienna. Junior researchers who have been employed at an academic institution in the Vienna area in the two years prior to the time of application are not eligible. The ESI provides support for a Junior Research Fellow to work at the ESI for a time period between one and four months. Proposals should contain:

  • a brief description of the research project (3 pages)
  • a CV of the applicant
  • the list of publications and previous achievements of the applicant
  • the name of a contact person (faculty of the University of Vienna) and 2 possible referees
  • a letter of support from the local contact person
  • the number of months and dates of planned stay

Applications for fellowships should be sent in PDF-format to applications@esi.ac.at. The deadline for application submission for an ESI Junior Research Fellowship is May 30, in the year preceding the proposed stay.

Note that a Junior Research Fellowship cannot be awarded to people who have received or will receive a salary from the University of Vienna in the year of the fellowship. For additional information please contact secr@esi.ac.at.
