Application of TNPs in fitting resummed predictions to data at high precision

The interpretation of high-precision measurements requires a reliable treatment of theory uncertainties and their correlations. I will discuss how the TNP approach (introduced in the previous talk) is used to consistently propagate theory uncertainties from the resummed predictions to the extracted parameter of interest. I first discuss the method of scanning (which is also used with scale-variation based uncertainties) and its limitations. I will then discuss profiling the TNPs, which is analogous to the modern treatment of experimental systematics. A key feature of the TNP approach is that it allows profiling the theory uncertainties in fits to data and to exploit the precision of the data to constrain and reduce the theory uncertainties. I will use two examples as illustration, namely the extraction of the strong coupling constant from the e+e- EEC spectrum in the back-to-back limit and the Drell-Yan qT spectrum at small qT.
