Conformally constrained minimization of total curvature

The Willmore energy is a conformally invariant functional that quantifies the total bending of an immersed surface in Euclidean space. In this talk, we focus on tori with prescribed conformal class and explore the associated gradient flow. For rotationally symmetric initial data, we discuss a criterion ensuring global existence and convergence of the flow, regardless of the initial energy.
