Double parton scattering: basics and recent developments

Double parton scattering is the mechanism in which two partons in each proton
enter in two separate hard-scattering processes within the same proton-proton
collision.  This presents a rather non-trivial setting for factorisation, both
because of its rich colour structure and because of its interplay with single
parton scattering.  I will present the basiscs of the theory description and
then discuss recent developments and open questions.
