Toric Stratification and Topology of Subvarieties (lecture 1)

Andreas Braun (Durham U)

Jul 13. 2026, 09:30 — 10:30

Toric varieties are naturally stratified into algebraic tori of various dimension. Using the theory of Danilov and Khovanskii, this can be used to describe topological data of toric hypersurfaces from combinatorics.

In these lectures, I will give a hands-on introduction to this approach and show how it can be used to efficiently address a variety of questions.
