Runs of Extremes of Observables and Applications

Meagan Carney (U of Queensland, Brisbane)

Mar 19. 2024, 11:00 — 12:00

In this talk we will discuss extensions of the max-stability property of the GEV to runs of extremes of observables for certain uniformly expanding dynamical systems with maxima following Frechet or Weibull distribution. We will end with applications to real-world weather systems to estimate returns and magnitudes of consecutive extremes, such as rainfall and temperature (flooding and heat-waves), and compare these with current modeling methods.
