In this talk I will discuss recent developments on finding efficient MPS and PEPS representations for Gutzwiller projected fermionic parton wave functions. With the kagome Heisenberg antiferromagnet as an example, I will also illustrate that suitably chosen parton wave functions are excellent initial ansatz for boosting the performance of tensor network variational calculations.
