Using your own Laptop or Macbook at the ESI
You can connect to the internet via network cable or wlan.
If your institution participates in the eduroam project, you should be able to use the wlan account from your
home institution. Otherwise, both cable and wlan access require a temporary u:connect account
login & password) issued by the ESI admin office. Once you have your account, either
connect via cable or wlan (see u:connectfor more information) and open any webpage to log in.
To change the password issued to you go to https://www.univie.ac.at/ZID/passwd.
To print from the main printer called copynix which is located at the end of the
corridor follow these instructions:
For Linux and Windows up to Windows 7:
- Connection Type: IPP
- Printer Address: printer.mat.univie.ac.at
- Printer Queue: printers/copynix
- Printer Model: Generic Postscript
To install a network printer under windows please choose local printer at the
beginning of the installation process and only later Standard TCP/IP Port.
For Macbooks & Windows 7:
- Select: Devices & Printers - Add Printer - A Network Printer - The printer I want
is not listed.
- In the field Select a shared printer by name type in:
http://printer.mat.univie.ac.at:631/printers/copynix
install the printer driver Canon IR5055/5065 (via internet or borrow the software on a
USB stick from the ESI admin office)
