ESI Senior Research Fellow Program, spring term 2003

N=1 and N=2 Supersymmetry and Supergravity

Course of advanced graduate lectures by

Professor Peter van Nieuwenhuizen
(C. N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics, Stony Brook)

Wednesday, 16:00 – 18:00, Institute for Theoretical Physics, TU Vienna, Wiedner Hauptstraße 8-10, room 136, level 10
as part of the seminar for theoretical physics starting on March 12, 2003

Continuation: Tuesday January 13, 20, and 27, 16:00 - 18:00 Institute for Theoretical Physics, TU Vienna, Wiedner Hauptstraße 8-10, room 136, level 10

We begin with the scalar and vector multiplets of N=1 supersymmetry in d=4 Minkowski and Euclidean space. Next comes the extension of these results to simple (N=1) supergravity in ordinary space (x-space). We discuss the same models in 1,2,and 3 dimensions. Then we introduce superspace, and write these models in superspace. In the second part of these lectures we discuss N=2 models, both for supersymmetry and for supergravity. We assume some elementary knowledge of supersymmetry, but will anyhow review this material. Special topics will include: boundary conditions for supersymmetric theories, spinors in Euclidean space.
